Fairfield and Bridgeport Install Sea Grass Plantings on Sand Spit

In January 2022 an RFP was formally issued by the City of Bridgeport called "Sea Grass Plantings Ash Creek Sand Spit" for the purpose of protecting this fragile habitat from further erosion. The RFP was issued by the Bridgeport Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with the Town of Fairfield Conservation Department. It called for the planting of 42,000 American beach grass culms (Ammophila Brevilgulata) by March 2022. All materials such as plants, fertilizer, and dune fencing were provided by the contractor, All Habitat. They will guarantee the success of the plantings if we protect the plants during the early stages of growth.

Dune fencing was installed to protect the plantings from foot traffic while the plants become established. Please respect the restoration area and report any damage immediately to the Ash Creek Conservation Association at (203) 335-6690. ACCA is working with the City of Bridgeport Parks Department and the Town of Fairfield Conservation Department to ensure that the plantings are protected during their early stages of growth.

The City of Bridgeport and the Town of Fairfield shared the cost of the sea grass installation and are working in collaboration with ACCA to protect this part of our living shoreline from erosion. Thank you for supporting our efforts to protect our tidal wetlands.
